Take a Holiday in Lapland

Lapland is one area that offers a lot to the people that visit. It has a rich history and culture, thanks to the Sami people, and also has the tools to make it an exciting and fun vacation. Taking a Lapland trip can be one of the best ways to take a holiday. Some of the things you can do in Lapland can be done elsewhere, but they won’t have the same beautiful landscape to accompany it. Here are some of the best things that you can do while visiting the Lapland area.

See the Northern Lights

There is no reason to go to the Lapland area and not see the Northern Lights. These are one of the most beautiful natural phenomenons that the world has to offer. The different colors that drape across the sky is a sight that you will be hard pressed to find most anywhere else. This is one of the best things to see while up in Lapland in the arctic circle.

Visit the Sami People

The Sami people are the people that are indigenous to the Lapland region. They have many traditional set ups in Lapland that are open to visitors to see and experience. One place you can visit in Swedish Lapland is Jokkmokk. This exhibition site not only gives you the chance to meet and hang out with Sami people but you also get the opportunity to hear traditional Sami music and see Sami art. The best experiences usually come from hanging with the locals.

Go Skiing

With all of the snow that Lapland gets, its no surprise that a snow sport like skiing can be found in abundance. There are several ski resorts in the area that you can choose to go to. The smallest resort has five slopes and the largest has 62. You can be sure to find a slope that is suitable to your skill level. If you’re feeling very adventurous, most of these resorts also have half pipes and street courses that you can go on.

One of the best ways to enjoy the Lapland landscape is to take out a snowmobile on it. Riding one of these for miles and miles at a time with the snow beneath you and the wind in your face and Lapland on the horizon, you could be in worse places. IT may be a good idea to go out with a guide because the last thing you would want to do is get lost in the wilderness of Lapland. It can get pretty cold at night.

Take a Safari

A safari? Yes thats right, take a safari in the snow. This isn’t exactly the kind of safari that you may be used to hearing about. There won’t be a jungle or a sand desert but more like the woods and open lands of snow. You won’t see a lion, a tiger, an elephant or a giraffe but there is a good chance that you will see a lynx, a moose, or a brown bear. They may not sound as exotic but up close and personal, they can be just as cool.
